Led by local printmakers Samuel Havens and Susan Bachemin, this series of recurring workshops provides an open exploration of techniques unique to monotype printmaking, and the exciting possibilities of this richly rewarding image-making process. The operation of the press itself will be handled by facilitators. Participants will be free to engage, learn, experiment, and create with materials and methods offered on the studio floor of the historic building of The Church. Each participant will go home with unique prints of their own creation!

Hamptons Jazz Fest presents Punjabi vocalist and trumpeter Sonny Singh. Known for bringing his fiery trumpet and vocals to audiences around the world, Singh will fill The Church’s studio space with anthems that uplift and ignite. Singh’s music is a reminder that hope, love, and devotion are crucial to our struggles and our collective survival. Singh’s musical talents range across genres like ska, reggae, funk, punk rock, bhangra, and more.

Singh was an original member of the bhangra brass band Red Baraat and recently debuted his solo career with the release of his album, “Chardi Kala” in 2022. “Chardi Kala” is a return to Sonny’s Punjabi & Sikh roots, but through the lens he’s developed over the course of his life as a touring musician, educator, and activist. Musically, the project embodies the many spiritual, political, and aesthetic elements that have shaped Sonny: a bolero-mariachi Sikh shabad on one track, a qawwali song with a reggae bass line on another, and a bombastic Ghadar Party tribute in Punjabi and Spanish on another. His live band, which includes harmonium, electric guitar, tabla, and dhol, provides listeners with an experience of both introspective reflection and fervent urgency.

Glenn on Glenn brings together two legendary contemporary art titans, Glenn Fuhrman and Glenn Ligon, in an intimate dialogue. Ligon is a renowned artist whose work, Skin Tight, 1995 is featured in Strike Fast, Dance Lightly: Artists on Boxing. Fuhrman is the founder of The FLAG Art Foundation, The Church’s exhibition collaborator for Strike Fast, Dance Lightly. The two will discuss art, life, and boxing as a metaphor in contemporary art.

Ligon is a conceptual artist whose work explores race, language, and identity across a variety of media, including painting and neon, and has had numerous exhibitions both nationally and internationally. Fuhrman is the Co-Founder and Co-Managing Partner of investment partnership, Tru Arrow Partners, and the Co-Founder of MSD Capital, where he served as its Co-Managing Partner for over 20 years. The two Glenns are from different ends of the art world spectrum, though their shared passion and respect for art, as well as their tremendous careers, tie the two legends together.

Boxing is not all about combat! The sport is also used as an evidence-informed therapy practice, particularly for Parkinson’s disease. Join us for a lecture on the relationship between Parkinson’s and Boxing featuring Sarah Cohen, PT, DPT, and Administrator of Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s Center for Parkinson’s Disease, and Michelle Del Giorno, founder of Epic Martial Arts in Sag Harbor, which includes Rock Steady Boxing, a program that has helped over 200 Parkinson’s fighters since 2017. The conversation between Cohen and Del Giorno will focus on Rock Steady Boxing, where the fighters don’t compete or train for titles and accolades but instead are fighting against Parkinson’s disease. Join us for an informal conversation about Parkinson’s disease and hear how boxing unites this community while bringing people together through fighting, sweating, laughing, and crying. A demonstration of the techniques will follow the lecture, and a Q&A will conclude the event.

Southampton artist Darius Yektai, featured in The Church’s Summer exhibition Strike Fast, Dance Lightly: Artists on Boxing, will speak on his work in the show as well as his artistic career and processes. Yektai’s work often pushes the boundaries of painting towards sculpture and sculpture towards painting. Having shown both nationally and internationally, Yektai’s technique involves both traditional and experimental approaches with his use of thick, tactile brushstrokes and sharp edges created by pouring resin directly onto the canvas.

Yektai is the son of Manoucher Yektai, a renowned painter who was instrumental in the Abstract Expressionism movement. With these deep seeded art roots, Yektai has solidified his own style, with a youthful sense of urgency and fast spontaneity permeating his work. Yektai’s piece, The Titans, 2023, a large painterly sculpture, was created specifically for Strike Fast Dance Lightly and joins the checklists of world-renowned artists, all of which grapple with the motif of boxing.

Hamptons Jazz Fest presents Middle Eastern vocalist and composer Galeet Dardashti and the all-female Mizrahi band Divahn. Together, the all-woman musical group celebrate Middle Eastern heritage, infusing traditional songs with sophisticated harmonies, funky arrangements, and entrancing improvisations. From music festivals, to live television and radio programs, Divahn has sparked international interest and welcomed audiences to a beautiful sphere of multiculturalism. As the lead singer of the edgy all-woman Mizrahi ensemble Divahn, Dardashti entrances audiences and lends dimension to the group with her diverse background.

How do you get famous, creative geniuses to open-up and share their experiences? Susan Lacy knows. Learn from one of the best as our Knowledge Friday series continues with the visionary documentary filmmaker. Lacy will share how she created, in her own words, “a comprehensive library of the giants of American culture whose individual stories are connected.”

A Pioneer for channel thirteen’s PBS, Lacy is the creator of the highly acclaimed series, American Masters. Lacy has sat with some of the most renowned culture icons for both the PBS series and her current work with HBO, names such as: Jane Fonda, Ralph Lauren, Joni Mitchell, and Stephen Spielberg to name a few. Her knowledge of the industry and her experience is invaluable and offers a key to any inspiring documentary filmmaker and story teller.

In her latest book, Flirting with Danger, Janet Wallach tells the true story of Marguerite Harrison, a glamorous Socialite who became a daring Spy. The only female agent sent overseas by U.S. Military Intelligence in the tumultuous era at the end of World War I, she was the first American woman to enter Germany, where she dined with the kaiser’s generals and befriended Bolshevik agents, stealing secrets from both sides. She then snuck into Russia, interviewed Trotsky, saw Lenin deliver a mesmerizing speech, and was kept for almost a year in the infamous Lubyanka prison.

Harrison won praise from Intelligence officials for her reports yet returned home an unsung heroine. Warning of a coming second war with the Germans and a cold war with the Soviets, her prescience was ignored. Nonetheless, she went on to work in the Far East and made a landmark documentary film in Iran. Intelligent and daring, she spoke seven languages fluently and loved adventure.

Dini von Mueffling, CEO of the award-winning public relations firm and current The Church board Member, will lead a discussion with Janet Wallach about the book, the writing experience, and all that we can gain from sharing stories.

Hamptons Jazz Fest presents award winning drummer and bandleader Matt Wilson and his quartet. Wilson is on a mission to foster lively and deep connection between music and people. He comes to The Church with extensive experience and heightened passion, ensuring that jazz aficionados and jazz newcomers alike will leave with enthusiasm and energy.

The Church is passionate about welcoming artists to its space and establishing an oasis for creative inspiration and connection. The Church’s bi-monthly Late Night Open Studio is back! Artists of all mediums are invited to join, socialize, and work on any projects, whether past or current. Think coffee shop or a library for creatives, for moments when you would rather work in a community environment as opposed to alone in your studio or home. Attendees are responsible for bringing all their own supplies (including easels!). The Church is solely providing its studio (including tables and chairs) for artists to utilize and garner inspiration from. This open studio is free with RSVP for members and $10 for non-members, all ages are welcome. Whether you’re a painter, illustrator, sculptor, photographer, writer, or musician, we hope you will come and help us form a community. Let’s change the stereotype that all artists are introverts!

“Journey into Tabla” and explore the rhythmic sounds of India in this introductory drumming workshop! Led by East Hampton based teacher and musician Sejal Kukadia, participants will be guided through the practice and technique of tabla. Often referred to as the most expressive drum in the world, the tabla is a beautiful, versatile, and time-honored classical instrument that has become increasingly popular worldwide. One of the most valued tools to maintain inner balance, practicing tabla is the perfect activity for all ages!

“This show [Strike Fast, Dance Lightly] is a sermon about the belief and value we put on the struggle to be, to live, to understand, to love, to try and to never give up,” shares Eric Fischl when describing The Church’s current exhibition Strike Fast, Dance Lightly: Artists on Boxing. Hear more from Fischl and Sara Cochran as the co-curators converse on the conceptual and curatorial process revolving around this mammoth of an exhibition featuring 70 works of varying mediums by 56 nationally and internationally known artists. Fischl and Cochran will lead a tour of the exhibition, after hours when the building is closed, allowing guests an exclusive viewing of the gallery. After the tour, will be a reading from esteemed poet Philip Schultz.
